Visa jumps on the NFC ship

The New Credit Card

It’s official; Visa is now taking steps to streamline consumer check-out experiences and adding NFC technology for mobile payments and banking. Visa is joining the ranks of other businesses that have started trending toward NFC payments and banking options. American Express, Google and Amazon are just a few that have started working towards a mobile payment system.

Near Field Communication (NFC) technology has been the hot topic the last few months. Several big businesses like Visa, Google and American Express have been in the news for technology they’ve been working on, or systems that they were going to start to bring NFC mobile payments to life.

France, London and the UK have all ready started programs implementing NFC payments or text-to-pay type systems.  Japan has been using contactless payment systems for some time now. If all goes well, the U.S. may get the option to use this type of payment system before the end of this year.

One thing that Visa is working on is one central place to store user data for bank and charge accounts. Customers can register at this one site with their info and not have to register with each merchant they want to shop with. That cuts down on how many places have your personal info, and the time a person spends registering on multiple sites.

With all of the recent cyber hacking and data breaches that have been occurring, consumers may be more excited about the streamlined payment system than the NFC mobile payment options.
