Social Media has shown that it is here to stay. Add to that the soaring popularity of mobile devices, and you have a marketing gold mine. Technology has increased the processing speed and graphics, making mobile phone users more inclined to use Social Media, shopping and other applications.

With so much going into mobile technology, experts are predicting that in the very near future, the sale of laptops and personal computers will be overrun by the sale of mobile devices. U.S. adults who are mobile phone users are at 82 percent, of those, over half, have applications on their phone, and two-thirds of those people use them  regularly.

Gaming applications may still rule, but other are quickly rising to catch up. News and weather related applications came in second as the most downloaded apps, followed by mapping and productivity, social networking and music applications.

Expenditures for mobile advertising and marketing are well over 10 billion dollars, and rapidly expanding. The numbers show that people are getting more comfortable using their phones for online activities. E-BAY had 2 billion dollars in mobile sales last month, and over 200 million users on Facebook are mobile.

New operating systems and stronger security features are helping to boost mobile commerce also. Based on the numbers now, prediction modeling shows that in as little as three years, more than one billion people will use mobile financial services, and in two years, 50 percent of mobile subscribers will be making payments via mobile phone.

Last year, 74 percent of retailers in the U.S. were planning for m-commerce. One in five all ready have a fully implemented strategy ready to go, and on average, retailers will be spending over 150 thousand dollars on their sites.
