ID going QR

QR Codes in Newspapers, Magazines, etc.

QR codes are seeing a boom in usage in Boise, Idaho. Companies are clamoring to use the codes in their marketing campaigns and promotional efforts, each looking to gain a leading edge against the competition. Realtors, fitness centers, and newspapers are throwing all of their momentum behind QR codes hoping to net the ever growing crowd of smart phone users.

Associate broker at Templeton and Keller Williams, Janet Parsone, has been putting the codes on her business card and signage in front of properties. “My head started spinning when I thought of all the cool ways I could use them,” she said.

QR code performance can be tracked via online third parties that provide analytics so that companies can tweak their usage to maximize results. Since the QR code itself does not need to be changed they can be used for as long as necessary as the content they link to changes over time.

BizPrint, a publishing firm in Boise that specializes in QR codes, has seen a massive influx of clients in the past year. A number of people have contacted the firm with questions regarding the codes, how they work, and what they mean. BizPrint provides training on the use of QR codes and teaches clients how to use them.

Travis Quast, vice president of sales and marketing at the Idaho Statesman newspaper, stated that they are working with a wide range of businesses starting to use QR codes. Quast compared the code advertisements to like having a 24-hour salesperson.”

With QR codes rising in popularity, their use in Western society is likely to become much more mainstream. Smart phone usage has been estimated to increase by 700% this year and those that don’t establish themselves with mobile technology now may be left in the dark.
