Canada Loves QR Codes

The Canadian Tourism Commission is embarking on their latest social media campaign and they are promoting it by adding QR codes to the advertising. The codes are a prominent part of the $2.5 million ad campaign and will give smart phone users direct access to the CTC website. The board has mingled with the codes in the past, but is looking to use the codes extensively in this new venture.

QR codes have been seeing a lot of action in social networking in recent months. The versatility of the codes as well as their ability to immediately link users to dynamic content synergies well with the sharing manta of social media. QR codes can be generated quickly and for free and can be linked to URL’s, text, videos, and other online content. The codes themselves never have to be changed either. The same code generated two months ago can be linked to the most recent content available.

The CTC is looking to boost their social media competition on their Facebook page. After seeing a great response in their similar campaign with Twitter during the Winter Olympics, this seems like the next logical step for the CTC.

The codes link to the CTC website where users will be able to find detailed information on events and attractions throughout Canada. Travelers will be able to find links to other sites that offer services to tourists through the CTC site as well.
