These smartphone transactions were powered by PayPal and ShopKeep POS.

PayPal, eBay’s online money transfer service, and ShopKeep POS worked together to assist moviegoers to make their concessions purchases using mobile payments at the world famous Telluride Film Festival.

This is the second year that ShopKeep POS has taken part in the film festival with its iPadPOS.

This year, it used the mobile payments functionality of PayPal in order to help encourage consumers to adopt its services for greater use and presence in the movie industry.

Founder and CEO of ShopKeep POS, Jason Richelson, was pleased with the mobile payments success.

He stated that “We are thrilled to be a part of the Telluride Film Festival again and to be able to showcase our PayPal integrated feature in high-caliber events like this.” Richelson added that “The Telluride Film Festival offers the perfect place to show how a mobile payment solution can move you through lines quickly without having to deal with change while you juggle your drinks and popcorn to rush to get the best seat in the house.”

The organizers of the film festival had been seeking a POS solution that would permit them to process tens of thousands of transactions that would result from the screening of 400 movies within a period of four days. This required a system that could be implemented quickly and easily, and that would require only very rapid training for the over fifty cashiers who would be working at the cinema concessions counters.

ShopKeep POS proved itself to be the best option for those needs, and powered all of the concessions for the film festival, including the mobile payments for the ticket offices and gift stores.

The PayPal vice president of global product, Hill Ferguson stated that mobile payments are currently a primary focus with the company, and that by working with ShopKeep for the film festival, there was a tremendous opportunity for the innovation of both companies to be showcased. Ferguson also pointed out that the integration of smartphone transactions made it possible for purchases to be rapidly and seamlessly completed so that the lines could move quickly and the event could be enjoyed.
