Smartphone activated mcommerce campaign is expected to generate consumer excitement.

Beginning this month, customers at 7-Eleven have been able to use the QR codes on Arizona Beverages on the label of its newest drink flavor in order to become eligible to win a number of different prizes.

The Cherry Lime Rickey flavor is brand new and is available exclusively at the convenience chain.

By making its new flavor launch at 7-Eleven, Arizona Beverages is piggybacking on the mcommerce success that the convenience store chain has already been experiencing over the last while, through its significant activity with smartphone marketing. This allows the new flavor to step right in to the smartphone sphere while the QR codes and contest drive consumer engagement and improve the overall shopping experience.

The selection of the new flavor, was also the result of a digital consumer engagement campaign.

Though that one didn’t use QR codes, as Arizona Beverages global communications director, Jackie Harrigan explained it, “The 20th anniversary fan chosen Cherry Lime Rickey flavor and final packaging was created entirely by fans, who over a six-month, social media-driven contest were called upon to vote on the new flavor and winning design.”

Now QR codes will help to further enhance the customer experience, stepping it into mobile.

Harrigan went on to say that this new contest is one of the ways that the company is using to thank the fans that have already shown their “tremendous support and enthusiasm”, as a simple scan of the quick response barcodes gives people the chance to win limited edition gear and unique prizes.

She added that “Our goals for the QR code are to give back to our fans and to engage them in the new product.”

This latest mcommerce promotion is the first time that the company has incorporated the barcodes into its product packaging. When the QR codes are scanned using a smartphone or tablet, they direct the user to a website where prizes can be unlocked, including free products, branded merchandise, or the contest’s grand prize, which consists of a complete trunk filled with drinks from Arizona Beverages.
