Big Company Uses QR Code

chopperSCHENECTADY, NEW YORK – A promotional strategy from Dole together with Price Choppers Supermarkets earned a lot of followers for Dole’s Mobile Salad Club.

Sources confirmed that Carrie Ann Arias, senior manager of Dole Fresh Vegetables Inc., said that this was the first promotional partnership with a retailer for the Monterey, California -based Dole Fresh Vegetables Incorporated.

Arias also said, “Mobile platforms have become a big focus for us from a Dole Logomarketing perspective, this is the first of what we think the future of marketing for us.” sources say.

The promotion included the use of QR codes that customers can scan. The QR code will lead them to Dole’s Mobile Salad Club Web Site. A sign-up page will appear and signing-up will give the shopper a chance to win recipes, a tour of Dole’s iPhone application and, a $500 worth gift card from Price Choppers Supermarkets.

The QR codes appeared on the Price Chopper Supermarkets’ Facebook page, print ads and, the web site. Arias said that the Facebook page got the most hits and it’s amazing that a static page like Facebooks’ can generate do much hits.

For consumers who didn’t have a smart phone they also created a short code that is text message friendly. The promotional event was just a test run and sources say that Arias had said that Dole is hoping to expand this to other retailers.

Arias said “We’re pleased with the adoption rate so far, the exciting thing is that it created a lot of conversation on Price Chopper’s Facebook page. These people adopting early are going to be the ones that help us shape what our Mobile Salad Club looks like.” Sources say.
