Mobile marketing gaining a strong foothold with consumers
Scanning QR codes is becoming more popular amongst consumers throughout the world. The codes are often considered an ideal tool to reach out to those with mobile devices, such as smart phones and tablets. Indeed, the codes have been a powerful boon for the mobile marketing industry, which has seen a great deal of progress in recent years due to how QR codes are being used. Many consumers are still unfamiliar with the codes despite how often they are being used. This has caused some advertisers to criticize QR codes as being nothing more than novelty. This is not the case, according to a new report from Scanbuy.
QR codes and print appear to be winning match
Scanbuy, a leading provider of mobile barcode solutions, has released a new report showing that scans of QR codes in printed material is experiencing dramatic growth. These codes are often found in magazines, newspapers, direct mail products, and store signage. QR codes have experienced a great deal of exposure in the print industry, with many consumers showing interest in the codes when they find them in magazines and other print materials. Scanbuy notes that these QR codes are experiencing the most growth.
Scans of QR codes on the rise
According to the report, more than 13 million QR codes have been scanned in the first quarter of 2012. This is an increase of 157% over last year when QR codes were still fighting for their place in the mobile marketing industry. The report shows that the most popular QR codes are those associated with packaging, with online codes and direct mail trailing closely behind.
Trend of growth expected to continue
Scanbuy notes that the codes are most popular in the U.S., Spain, Canada and France. If the trend continues, as it is expected to, then QR codes will likely become more commonplace in the print industry and be considered an option for companies to use as part of their labeling.
