In the mobile app’s latest update, support was added to draw these documents from Gmail
Recent Google Wallet updates have given the mobile app the ability to support drawing travel boarding passes and movie tickets right out of a Gmail email account.
The new feature for the app was originally announced in developer release notes
Once Google Wallet has been updated, users will be able to automatically use the confirmation emails they receive for their boarding passes and movie tickets to import those documents into the app.
Both boarding passes and movie tickets have already been compatible with the application. That said, this new feature makes it possible to automatically import them from a Gmail email account instead of having to add them to the app manually.
According to the tech giant, the feature is available for “some” airlines and movie chains worldwide, but it is working on expanding to a larger number of brands around the globe.
The boarding passes and tickets automatically appear in Google Wallet through the confirmation email.
As soon as a user receives a confirmation email for the purchase of movie tickets or boarding passes, those documents will automatically be added to their app through the new integration feature.
That said, it should be noted that this feature only functions when the confirmation email for the movie tickets and boarding passes contains a QR code or full boarding pass. Therefore, user results are likely to vary based on the format of the email and the type of services being used.
In the same release notes announcing this new feature for Google Wallet, the tech giant also pointed out that it made other changes to the app. This includes support for boarding passes so that they better display the time and date. Furthermore, it also stated that it was “moving AppLinkData definitions to a more prominent location on the front of the pass.” This will make it possible for a user to quickly move to the website or app that originally produced the ticket or pass.
The company also underscored that it continues to be possible to manually add documents as well as to be able to manually archive them. That functionality is also now available on the Wear OS version.
