Augmented reality developer Zappar has announced a partnership with Moonpig, makers of personalized greeting cards. Together, the two companies will work to provide Moonpie customers with an opportunity to make their own high-tech greeting cards. Zappar has equipped Moonpig’s website with a platform where customers can create and submit their own content, such as videos, music, and other personalized messages. Moonpig believes that this new service will be a hit with tech-savvy consumers.

Using the service, customers will be able to embed a personal message in one of Moonpig’s greeting cards. The content can be unlocked using the Moonpig smart phone application available to both Android and iOS platforms. The application makes use of Zappar’s augmented reality technology, allowing the recipients of the card to access the content by simply pointing their smart phone at the card. Moonpig claims that it is the first greeting card company to make use of augmented reality technology in such a way.

Zappar believes that this is a bold new step toward giving consumers a way to interact with one another. Augmented reality has been used as a social networking tool in the past, but these uses have been met with varying degrees of success. Nonetheless, Zappar expects to see the new augmented reality greeting cards from Moonpig to be a big success with consumers that are enthralled with mobile technologies.
