MocoSpace, a mobile gaming community, has released the results of its survey that has shown that the older a person is, the greater the odds that he or she will purchase products in mobile social games, and the more they wills spend on those goods.
The report indicated that gamers between the ages of 25 and 35 spend a larger amount of time using their mobile devices to play social games, but that it is the gamers over the age of 45 who spend the greatest amount of money on virtual goods there. The survey was conducted over a period of 3 months and involved the participation of almost 500,000 gamers on the network of the Boston-based MocoSpace, which boasts approximately 22 million users.
This means that there is a direct link between the amount that is being spent on virtual products sold in social games, and a gamer’s age.
Eighteen percent of the survey participants were over the age of 35, and yet this was the group that made 42 percent of the purchases of virtual goods. Comparatively, 43 percent of the survey participants were in the 18 to 25 age group, but they made only 18 percent of the purchases.
Clearly, the largest active demographic in social gaming is that which includes the 25 to 35 year olds. The gamers within that age group spends almost twice the time playing these games that is spent on the same activity by any other group. However, among them, only 22 percent said that they had ever purchased virtual goods through them.
