The Google mobile operating system is claiming 80 percent of all of the global smartphone shipments.
The latest data that has been released by Strategy Analytics in a technology news report that has revealed that the worldwide shipments of smartphones has increased by 47 percent when compared to last year, to the point that in the second quarter of 2013, there were 230 million units shipped.
Google, the maker of Android, must be thrilled as a record 8 out of every 10 devices used its operating system.
During the second quarter of this year, Android made massive technology news, when it captured a tremendous, record breaking 80 percent share of the smartphone volume on a global scale for the entire three month time span. According to Strategy Analytics senior analyst, Scott Bicheno, “Global smartphone shipments grew 47 percent annually from 156.5 million units in Q2 2012 to 229.6 million in Q2 2013.” He also went on to explain that “Growth was driven by strong demand for Android models across all price-tiers in developed and developing markets, such as the US, China and Brazil. Android now accounts for an impressive 8 in 10 of all smartphones shipped on the planet.”
The Android operating system is certainly the center of this considerable technology news story.
Strategy Analytics executive director, Neil Mawston, feels that he believes that this technology news is revolving around Google’s mobile operating system. He explained that Android has managed to be the operating system found in four out of every five smartphones that were shipped during the 2013 second quarter. This was expressed in a press release that he recently issued.
Mawston went on to explain that this technology news was made as a result of a number of different drivers that pushed toward the success of Android. These included a number of different hardware partners, competitive licensing costs, and a sizeable app store. Apple iOS held only 14 percent of the smartphone share worldwide within that same quarter. This was the lowest level that it has experienced since the second quarter of 2010. Microsoft, on the other hand, slipped into third place with a share of 4 percent, which is the highest achievement that it has made in the last three years.
