South Carolina Goes Mobile with QR codes and more!

Mytle Beach, Grand Strand Area

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, is going mobile. The Area Chamber of Commerce and several business owners from along the Grand Strand area, have been working together to give their businesses a touch of high-tech. They aren’t just focusing on the mobile aspects; they’re looking at a total technology make-over.

Every year thousands of people are requesting information about Myrtle Beach, or South Carolina in general. They request information on hotels, attractions, restaurants, travel guides and many other things that a vacationer might be interested in.

When the local businesses saw the data, showing how much of that information was requested on mobile devices; the wheels started turning. They decided they had to act on this knowledge; for their businesses and the community.  Tourists and potential vacationer’s needed better access to the information and services they had to offer.

Last year the Chamber of Commerce and a few of the Grand Strand area businesses made changes to their web pages, making them more “mobile” friendly. Some of the hotels and attraction sites opted to have downloadable mobile apps created.  A quick search showed around 20 applications for mobile devices.

Their statistics show the mobile apps that were available, have been downloaded thousands of times all ready.  Now business owners are brainstorming all the different ways to make technology work for them. They have all ready seen several businesses start up; some offering travel applications and some are mobile application developers, and web developers.

The businesses are also looking into marketing their services with QR codes, and using social media. When people are on vacation, they still carry their phones. Since most phones are Smartphone’s, and web capable, it just makes good business sense to use that to your advantage.

Consumers are demanding a more mobile, less tethered lifestyle, and they are demanding that businesses keep up with that lifestyle. Myrtle Beach is definitely stepping up to the demand.  Retailers and every other business there is having mobile apps created, or changing their websites to be mobile friendly or using QR codes in their marketing.
