California Growers, Giant Berry Farms QR Code Campaign

California Giant Berry Farms has announced that they will be emblazoning their packaging labels with QR codes as a new way to engage consumers. The codes will be featured on all packages, often called clamshells, during the harvesting season. The company will also host weekly drawings which consumers can enter by scanning the code.

The code resolves to California Giant’s mobile website and gives them the opportunity to enter a contest to win up to $100. Winners are chosen weekly and announced via the company’s Facebook page. Participants may choose to donate their winnings to a charity, which will be matched by the company.

By using QR codes, the company is making an effort to open its doors to consumers, allowing them to engage with the company directly and even participant in their philanthropic endeavors. Their aim is to create a robust two-way communication with their consumers.

“This initiative is really embarking on new territory for us,” says Cindy Jewell, director of marketing for California Giant. She says that social media is taking a bigger role in affecting peoples’ attitudes regarding companies. The company will be able to track the effectiveness of the QR codes and collect consumer data so they may better design future campaigns.

QR codes have limitless potential, much of which seems to be untapped. Businesses and individuals find new uses for QR codes constantly, and those innovations propel the codes further on the track to becoming a staple of society.
