Rental Car QR code campaign

The barcodes, combined with a mobile commerce website, make things easier for customers.

Enterprise Holdings has just announced that they have launched their new mobile friendly ONRAMP Concierge, which is a 24/7 travel guide service that is based on the use of QR codes in almost a million vehicles.

The barcodes will be found in Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Alamo Rent A Car, and National Car Rental vehicles.

This service will provide car rental customers with the ability to easily locate and gain directions to local attractions, as well as obtain information about the vehicle, and a full range of additional options.

The intention is to have the QR codes fully in place by the end of this year.

The program was successfully piloted last year as an industry first QR code project. Due to the popularity of that campaign, the rental company is now expanding the use of the little black and white squares as a part of its ONRAMP Concierge service. Now, the vehicles in all of the United States and Canada (which make up the largest rental fleet in North America) will feature the quick response barcodes.

To use them, customers with smartphones can use any free scanner app. When the QR codes – which are located on the key tags and windows of the vehicles – are scanned, the mobile commerce website is automatically launched. From there, customers are able to access useful information about the make and model of the rental vehicle, as well as connect to a number of geo-targeted websites, such as GasBuddy and Yelp, and can gain access of special offers that are being promoted by the rental company.

Though the QR codes weren’t initially a part of this program, it was their success in last year’s pilot program that convinced the rental company to apply them in this case. They provide customers with an easily recognizable, fast, and simple way to connect directly with the mcommerce website and all of its services without having to type the URL into the device. The hope is that this will help to provide an enhanced experience for the car rental customers.
