QR Code scavenger hunts…the next big thing!

This year’s South by Southwest (SXSW) conference held in Texas will be home to vast array of talent spanning the film, music and interactive media industries. The conference, which is held annually, has long been a time for creatives to come together and share their latest innovations and discoveries. SXSW has been the host for several interactive media escapades in the past and this year is no exception.

Meet-Meme, a company whose expertise is in personal branding through use of QR code trading cards, will be holding a scavenger-hunt event that will be driven by QR codes. Those wishing to participate can download the checklist from Meet-Meme’s site.

Participants will have to hunt down a number of people that bear the QR adorned trading cards. Scanning the codes from the cards will update the virtual checklist, allowing Meet-Meme to keep track of the hunt. Each scan will enter hunters into a raffle to win an assortment of prizes.

Card holders will be riddled throughout the conference. Some will be more difficult to find while others will be fairly popular personas.

By incorporating codes in their scavenger-hunt, Meet-Meme is hoping to encourage interaction, and playful competition, for SXSW attendees, as well as raise awareness about the codes themselves.

The codes are still relatively exotic to some and Meet-Meme is encouraging those unfamiliar with QR to download appropriate barcode reading applications for their smart phones.
