QR codes are coming to the world of business development in Pennsylvania. The Union County Economic Development Corporation (UCEDC), a non-profit organizing that provides resources to small startups and other businesses in the state, will be among the first economic development organizations in the nation to leverage QR codes. The codes will allow the organization to distribute information quickly and provide access to a wealth of economic and realty data. The initiative will help business owners make informed decision on where to set up shop and how their business will fare in the current economic climate.

In the world of economic development, information is everything. In bygone years, organizations like the UCEDC have relied on slower forms of distribution, such as mail. With the advent of smart phones, however, broadcasting important information has become easier, and those that need such information can now get it quickly. This is particularly alluring to realtors who can take advantage of the UCEDC’s extensive realty records.

The codes will first be used on the organizations printed marketing materials. The codes will link to the UCEDC’s new website. QR codes will also adorn the business cards of the organization’s executives and staff, linking to online profiles.

Despite the apparent simplicity of the codes and the manner in which the organization is using them, this initiative accounts for a major step in Pennsylvania’s economic development, according to UCEDC’s president, Don Alexander.
