WhatsApp to introduce a new tool that will make adding and sharing contact info easier.
A WhatsApp QR code feature is reportedly in the works. This new tool will supposedly give WatsApp users the ability to easily share contact information and add contacts via a quick response code.
Users simply need to scan a QR code to automatically add the contact to the app.
WhatsApp has reportedly been working on these new features for weeks and adding the improvements it has been making in recent app updates, according to WABetaInfo. At present, the WhatsApp QR code feature is not yet available on its iOS or Android app.
Once the feature is available, the unique digital codes will be implemented by the free messaging app within its “Add Contact” menu. Apparently all users will need to do is scan a QR code with their phone’s camera. Once scanned, WhatsApp will automatically fill out the contact’s info associated with that code and add them to the user’s list of contacts.
Users will also be able to share their own WhatsApp QR Code.
In addition to being able to scan the codes of other Users, each user will be able to share their own quick response code, allowing others to add them without having to physically type out or copy the number.

Moreover, WhatsApp is also improving a feature that allow users to add new contacts from within the actual app itself instead of having to navigate out of the app and accessing the phone book on their device. This is a far more direct approach to adding contacts.
Once the features have been implemented, selecting the “Add Contact” option will prompt users to enter the code and number of the person they want to add. This will then display a prompt stating whether the number is linked to an active WhatsApp account.
WhatsApp isn’t the first social app to launch a QR codes feature to improve user experience. QR Code Press reported back in July that LinkedIn has also implemented this technology to provide users with a new and easy way to connect with others.
While it isn’t yet known when the WhatsApp QR code feature will be rolled out for iOS and Android, it is expected to be in the very near future.
