New report in…QR code scanning off the grid!

Mobile Marketing Statistics

Mobile Marketing Statistics 2011

Earlier this year, mobile marketing pioneer Mobio Identity Systems, released a report that showed QR code scanning grew by a staggering 1,200% in the last six months of 2010. Mobio’s report spurred rabid adoption of the code from businesses seeking to establish themselves in the burgeoning mobile marketing industry. Their rise to fame in the U.S. is similar to what happened in Japan during the advent of mobile technology: QR codes are now becoming a staple of marketing and can be found just about anywhere. The momentum is not likely to ebb any time soon, according to Mobio, as they release their latest report.

Mobio has released their latest comprehensive report on the adoption of QR codes in North America. Their findings show that scanning has risen by 4,549% in one year. Calling the report “Whiplash,” Mobio believes that the codes are now at the cusp of mainstream incorporation. Given their massive consumer appeal, more big brands are likely to start using the codes in their mobile marketing campaigns.

The report also shows that downloads for QR scanning applications for smart phones rose by more than 900% in the first quarter of this year alone. Additionally, research found that women dominate scanning, accounting for 68% of overall scans. The majority of scans come from consumers between the ages of 25 and 54, showing that fancy gadgetry isn’t just for teenagers.

Mobio’s report shows that most scanners are doing so because they are genuinely intrigued by the codes and not just tickled by their novelty. More than 60% of scanners continued to scan codes regularly.

The latest report is likely to inspire more businesses to adopt QR codes in much the same way Mobio’s initial report did earlier this year.
