AngelPad, a platform connecting ambitious startups with enterprising investors, held another of their famous Demo Days yesterday. Thirteen promising companies, ranging from car insurance to search engine startups, were presented to more than 100 potential investors. The thirteen were chosen from amongst a pool of more than 800 applicants. A number of companies that were represented at AngelPad’s Demo Day made use of QR codes.
Many marketers are beginning to rely on the codes as a way to engage consumers as mobile technology becomes a more integrated part of their lives. The codes can be printed in newspaper and magazine ads, used on billboards or flyers, or incorporated into online marketing campaigns and are an inexpensive form of dynamic advertising. The codes can be deciphered by any smart phone that has barcode reading software.
Hopscotch is a mobile application that reads QR codes and is one of the companies represented by AngelPad. Hopscotch aims to work with companies that host concerts and provide them with the means to engage audiences through the use of mobile technology. By using the application, concert runners can attach the codes to their print advertisements and other promotional material. When scanned, the codes can be linked to websites or videos. Their current free application, as shown above, allows you to share your experiences by supporting social media buttons.
QR codes are becoming increasingly popular. Much of this popularity is being driven by the success of mobile devices. Smart phones, in particular, are the primary means through which the codes are scanned.
