Mobile optimized website puts Timberland in the m-commerce fast lane

Mobile Optimized Site

Mobile Optimized Site
Timberland has taken a tremendous leap into mobile with its optimized site, which has been live since the end of August, as well as a number of live events which feature QR codes that provide enhanced information on products and will be starting on October 19, 2011.

According to the Timberland North American commerce manager, Heather Frost, said that they’ve been paying attention to the information regarding mobile’s emergence for quite some time. She added that smartphones have “obviously changed everything quite dramatically and we felt that getting a mobile-optimized site was the next logical step.” She then explained that the organization has already been seeing encouraging sales results.

The initiative to optimize for mobile was taken on by one of the two Commerce Search resellers at Google, Branding Brand. The co-founder of that organization, Chris Mason, said that if mobile hasn’t yet been tried, or if a company has previously had a negative experience with it, then it may not recognize the degree to which mobile is expanding. There are already millions of dollars in transactions being processed through mobile.

Google has stated that it predicts that this year alone, mobile ad revenue will have reached $2.5 billion. Forrester has announced that it forecasts a 39 percent compounded annual growth rate from this year through 2016 in m-commerce.

The events held by Timberland, such as the “Sundance Film Festival Style Night Out” will bring tips from experts in the style industry together with the winter boots from the company’s Fall 2011 line. A trend booklet will be provided to all of the guests, giving them access to QR codes that will link them to style videos.
