Michigan’s Urbane Apartments launches new QR code campaign to reach out to residents

QR codes are a popular marketing tool in the real estate industry, but they have been rare in the apartments and rental market. When the codes first came to the U.S. sometime in 2008, realtors were the ones that made them popular. Before the codes began showing up on signage for houses and other properties, few people had ever seen them before. Now, Urbane Apartments, a rental community located in Detroit, Michigan, is using the codes in an attempt to echo the success they have seen in the realty business at large.

The company’s approach is a bit unconventional. Urbane has partnered with local Jet’s Pizza to post QR codes inside of pizza boxes. The pizza company regularly makes deliveries to the apartment complex and Urbane believes this will help distribute the codes to those that are most likely to use them. When the code is scanned with a smart phone, renters can see a short, animated video that parodies the hassles of moving to a new home.

Urbane notes that the campaign’s costs are negligible. The campaign was actually birthed by Urbane Media, which is a social marketing, public relations and market research branch of the Urbane empire. Because the campaign was so inexpensive, Urbane is likely to continue its use of QR codes as a way to reach out to residents of their apartment homes.
