March will bring the unveiling of the 2013 Mercedes-Benz A-Class at the Motor Show in Geneva, following significant on-road testing covered in QR code patterns.

This barcode paintjob was inspired by the Singapore Mercedes-Benz QR Code race, and is one of the elements of a sweepstakes to allow a winner to receive a trip for two to the model’s world premier.

There will be a number of camouflaged hatchbacks from the 2012 A-Class that will be driving around in traffic in a number of German cities. These prototypes for the newer vehicles will feature the QR code.

It will be possible to scan the codes starting within the first week of February, at which point users will be automatically redirected to download the free “The A-Class QR-Trophy” app, which will allow them to collect “badges”.

These badges can be collected by scanning the various QR codes that will be available at certain social media and print publications. In order to complete the full set, four badges will need to be collected. At that point, the user will automatically be entered into the draw for the prize.

The app is compatible with Apple and Android smartphones and can also be downloaded from the Android Market or Apple App Store. Once the app is downloaded, the codes can be scanned in order to obtain the badges that are needed to gain entry.

Until the app and codes become available, there is a teaser video available to provide further details about the competition.
