According to data from Fandango, the mobile movie ticket sales for “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 1” reached record breaking levels for the company over the movie’s opening weekend.

Before last weekend, the record holder for mobile ticket sales had been “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2.” Fandango reported that 20 percent of the movie tickets sold for the last in the Harry Porter series in July had been purchased for the opening weekend’s showings.

The service offered by Fandango allows consumers to choose a film, decide the theatre and time they would like to attend, and purchase the tickets in advance. This Comcast Interactive Media branch company operates a busy mobile website.

Now, it has a new record holder for the film with the most tickets sold by way of the Fandango mobile app, in “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 1”. After the second place Harry Potter movie, is “The Hangover II”.

Fandango also reported that its mobile app has now broken the 20 million mark for its number of downloads, indicating that consumers have a growing interest in using their smartphones and tablet devices to purchase their movie tickets.

Consumers continued to make their ticket purchases for the Twilight movie throughout the weekend, but mobile ticketing as a whole is definitely growing. It is a gradual increase, but consumers are slowly adopting the use of mobile websites and apps to purchase tickets for movies and other events.

They enjoy the convenience of the technique, as well as the opportunity to use an additional channel for buying their tickets.
