Augmented reality application to provide tourists with information and interactive experiences

The Laguna Beach Visitors & Conference Bureau has partnered with Aurasma to create what it is calling the first augmented reality mobile application associated with a beach and its surrounding areas. The Bureau has unveiled the Official Laguna Beach Travel Info Mobile App, which is slated for release early this month. The application will boasts of several features, the most prominent of which is augmented reality. The application makes use of the Aurasma augmented reality platform in order to bring digital content to life and allow tourists to find information that is considered useful to them.

App to include Come to Life and Trolley Tracker features

The application’s “Come to Life” feature, which is powered by the Aurasma platform, allows users to experience Laguna Beach through augmented reality. Augmented reality content can be unlocked through this feature, allowing tourists to find interactive information pertaining to weather, travel, nearby locations and maps. The application utilizes GPS technology for its “Trolley Tracker” feature, which allows users to find public transportation routes. This feature will also allow users to track Laguna Beach trolleys, granted them updated information concerning their whereabouts.

Augmented reality experiences developed by Aurasma

The augmented reality content that will be associated with the application will, initially, be mostly comprised of videos. Users of the application can scan a number of photos that will be posted throughout Laguna Beach to initiate these videos through the app’s Come to Life feature. Aurasma has been a key part in the development of the augmented reality experiences that the app will be associated with.

Laguna Beach may expand use of augmented reality in the future

The Official Laguna Beach Travel Info Mobile App is available for both iOS and Andorid platforms. This is the first time Laguna Beach has made use of augmented reality as a way to reach out to consumers. Depending on the success of the initiative, the city may be inclined to expand its use of augmented reality in the future.
