JCPenney launched new QR code campaign to boost mobile commerce

JC Penney Mobile Marketing

JC Penney Mobile MarketingEarlier this year, retailer JCPenney launched a mobile marketing campaign that made use of QR codes. The company has since grown enamored with the concept of mobile commerce and has continued to expand their use of QR codes. The company has now launched a new website where consumers can shop for clothing and make purchases online using their smart phones. The codes associated with this new site have been embedded in several print publications, such as the magazine Cosmopolitan.

With smart phones continuing to show remarkable growth amongst consumers, more companies are taking notice and adopting marketing strategies to reach these consumers. Those that opt out of mobile marketing may find themselves out of touch with a new generation of consumer whose interest is encompassed within mobile technology. JCPenney is one of the many retailers throughout the U.S. to adopt QR codes for both print advertising and mobile commerce. The retailer’s codes simply link to their new website, but other companies have used the codes to finalize purchases.

QR codes can also be used to direct traffic to the variety of social networking platforms upon which JCPenney has established a presence. The codes have been known to be an effective means of information distribution due, in part, to the curiosity surrounding the codes. While few people actually know what the codes are, that lack of knowledge does not scare them away from scanning the codes that they find.
