The HansMerkur Insurance Group has announced that it will be making it even easier for their customers to file their medical claims by using quick response (QR) codes that can be scanned into their iPhone or iPad 2 devices.
The new customer service 2D barcode scanning being offered by HanseMerkur Krankenversicherung AG has been called i-nigma, and was developed by the mobile barcode solutions pioneer and global leader, 3GVision.
This allows private health insurance policyholders with the insurer to instantly file their claims and monitor the status of those bills by way of the HanseMerkur Rechnungs mobile app, which was both created and integrated by IBM.
According to the HanseMerkur director of claims department, Folke Tedsen, this insurer is the first one to provide this type of service in Germany. Tedsen added that “This method greatly simplifies the invoice submission, and further benefits customers by getting quicker reimbursement for their expenses.”
The new service being offered to the customers of the insurance company applies to inpatient and outpatient medical bills from various private healthcare clearinghouses. There are already approximately 38,000 dentists and physicians that are taking part, in addition to participating senior hospital physicians and an ever-increasing number of partners who continue to join.
Two DataMatrix codes that make healthcare invoices compatible with this service include those with eA and eP marks. Those with eA marks are those that have encrypted data about the patient’s personal and billing information. Those with the eP code contain the data regarding the invoice ID as well as a security key that will allow the eA code’s personal data information to be decoded.
