Android users all have an opinion about where the cheese should go and the Google CEO has made it a top priority.
The Android hamburger emoji underwent an update that has generated a massive amount of controversy about where the cheese should be placed. While the debate started small, it rapidly took off to the point that even Google’s CEO said he was making it his top priority.
The position of the cheese on the hamburger seems to be a debate that is roping in people who never thought they cared.
The drama began when Google changed the hamburger emoji to place the cheese under the patty. Apple, on the other hand, places the cheese on top of the burger. The debate was sparked as people started discussing the best order for flavor, texture, temperature and so on. Among the most popular orders of cheese and other ingredient placement is similar to the In-N-Out chain’s strategy for placing the lettuce just above the lower bun in order to help to prevent the bread from becoming soggy.
For those who were truly paying attention and who want their emojis to reflect reality, Google’s current cheese position is disastrous. Google placed the cheese under the patty but above the bun, which would be detrimental to the ability of the cheese to melt down over the sides of the patty and would result in lower bun sogginess.
Google CEO Sundar Pichai noticed and said he would “drop everything” to correct the hamburger emoji.
That said, Pichai is looking to make sure that the next Google hamburger emoticon will not cause burger fans the same upset that the last one did. He’s hoping that smartphone users will be able to agree – for the most part – on what the correct order would be for the best burger.

“Will drop everything else we are doing and address on Monday:) if folks can agree on the correct way to do this!” tweeted Sundar Pichai (@sundarpichai).
Emojis from different brands seem to have different preferences in terms of ingredients orders. They include the following hamburger emoji orders from top bun to lower:
• Microsoft – top bun, lettuce, tomato, cheese, patty, lower bun.
• Samsung – top bun, tomato, cheese, lettuce, patty, lower bun.
• LG – top bun, lettuce, cheese, patty, lower bun.
• HTC – top bun, patty 1, lettuce, patty 2, lower bun.
