On Tuesday, alone, these augmented reality glasses will be available for sale to Americans.
Google Glass will now become available for sale to people in the United States only, starting at 6 a.m. on Tuesday, for that single day, in a sales tactic that can be compared to those utilized by used car dealerships.
The availability of the device was made on the company’s Google+ account in the form of a post.
The company has stated that this sale is in response to the requests that it receives every day from individuals who would like to join the limited number of Google Glass Explorers. These are the first generation of wearers of these augmented reality devices. The event on Tuesday has been announced in a post that says “any adult in the U.S. can become an Explorer”. That said, they also did point out that “the number of spots available is limited.”
This single day offering is meant to give people who have been waiting for Google Glass the chance to buy a pair.
The company has also added some extra incentive to help to draw people who may have been on the fence about whether they would like to drop the $1,500 on this wearable technology. The post added that “It now comes with your favorite shade or frame, thanks to feedback from our current Explorers.”
Some of the comments that were left from consumers on the post had to do with the frustration that they were feeling about the price tag associated with this mobile device. There are many people who are interested in becoming Explorers and who would like to be able to expand the way that they are using the devices but the price has made it cost prohibitive.
Many have also pointed out that with all of the competition that is on its way – particularly from Apple – the price tag makes it seem ridiculous to buy the product now when there will be a vast range of other much more affordable – or potentially better – options on the market before the year is through.
That said, the company seems to be quite confident that those who will be interested in buying Google Glass will be able to afford it at its current price.
