San Antonio, Texas-based Valero has announced a new partnership with P97 networks to provide gas station mobile payments options to its customers.

This will make it possible for customers to pay for their purchases using their smartphones.

Customers will be able to use the gas station mobile payments options to complete secure transactions for purchasing fuel, car washes, or even certain purchases made in-store. To use this smartphone-based feature, customers will need to use the Valero app. That mobile application is based on the PetroZone mobile commerce platform from P97. Among its features include locating and navigating the company’s stations, paying for the fuel the user pumps, and receiving rewards and offers for fuel and in-store items.

The P97 Order Ahead platform will be added onto the Valero app. With this feature, participating station locations will let customers use the application to purchase products and schedule curbside pickups of their orders. That tech will support tech wallets as well as card-on-file options.

The goal of the gas station mobile payments with the P97 platform is to reduce purchase process friction.

At the same time, the platform also produces new sale opportunities for customers, while also enhancing brand loyalty and reducing the cost per transaction. The PetroZone platform is Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard and Service Organization Control Type Two compliant. It features multifactor authentication for sensitive user data protection and uses Microsoft Azure Cloud Services.

“At P97, we use technology to elevate the entire customer experience,” said P97 CEO and founder Donald Frieden. “It’s putting the convenience back in convenience store and we are confident that these new capabilities will improve fueling experiences at the pump.” Frieden’s company is based in Houston, Texas. It develops retail fueling industry mobile commerce solutions by way of its contextual commerce engine and cloud-based mobile platform.

Valero’s fuels and other products are available at around 7,000 retail outlets, among which many will participate in the new gas station mobile payments app feature.
