When it comes to raising money for a good cause, mobile technology can be used to great effect. Dairy Queen will be incorporating QR codes into their latest fundraising campaign hoping to take advantage of the widespread use of smart phones and other mobile devices. The company will be using the codes for their 2011 Miracle Treat Day, a campaign that will turn every Dairy Queen in Canada into a fundraising center for the Children’s Miracle Network.

Mobio Technologies, a mobile marketing solutions firm based in Vancouver, Canada, is providing the codes, which will be plastered on more than 7 million Blizzard cups. Dairy Queen is using Mobio’s proprietary codes, which can only be scanned by Mobio’s own barcode scanning application. Proprietary codes have been met with mild success in the past as many consumers have been unwilling to clutter their phones with barcode scanners that can only be used for specific codes.

When scanned, Mobio’s codes link to the Children’s Miracle Network website where customers can learn about the program and how to donate. Customers will also be able to visit Dairy Queen’s Facebook and Twitter pages by scanning the QR codes.

Dairy Queen’s Miracle Treat Day will be held on August 11. All proceeds from Blizzard sales will go to the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals throughout the country.
