Baidu has announced that it will be taking another step that can be compared to Google in that it is getting set to launch its very own operating system for smartphones.
Baidu is a Chinese company that is commonly referred to as the “Google of China”, as it runs the biggest search engine that country. Its smartphone operating system will be called Baidu Yi.
Currently, the foundation of Baidu Yi is Google Android software, on top of which the entire OS experience has been constructed. However, in the future it is likely that later versions of Baidu Yi will be built up from its own base.
One of the most prominent elements of Baudu Yi phones is their search box feature, which is not surprising considering that it is a smartphone experience that has been created by a search engine. In fact, this searching feature is available for users to make their web queries even before the rest of the Baudu Yi features are finished loading.
Furthermore, the operating system provides its users with up to 180 GB in storage online, for pictures, emails, contacts, and other types of data, which makes it possible to use Baidu Yi on mobile devices that don’t include a large amount of local storage.
This isn’t the first time that a business from China has released a cloud-focused mobile operating system. The Aliyun operating system was launched by Alibaba, an internet commerce site. Instead of running native apps, this OS was designed to run web apps. Though it was also based on Android, these two operating systems provide entirely different experiences to the users.
