BMW Augmented Reality Sparkles with 3D Glamour

BMW Augmented Realty Release

To launch the new BMW X3 in the Philippines, GMA New Media Inc. (NMI) will work in partnership with Top Gear Philippines and BMW for the creation of ‘augmented reality’ for a magazine.

Augmented reality is a term that is used to describe the live view whether it is direct or indirect of a physical environment, with the elements shown through sensory input that are computer generated. For the magazine by NMI, the features of the BMW X3 will be delivered in a 3D format for the readers to have an almost real-life experience of it.

The said vehicle will be in the Top Gear Philippines March issue, in a two-page spread. A statement of NMI that was released on Wednesday claims that this spread will allow the interested readers to take the vehicle for a “drive.” For Dingdong Caharian who is the senior vice president of NMI, they are working hard in improving augmented reality for the country since it is a good way of experiencing a certain product though it is not physically present.

Also excited about the collaboration, BMW has teamed up with NMI to do a series of advertisements for its products with the use of 3D technology and augmented reality. Asian Carmakers Corp President Maricar Parco says that the latest technology is sought-after during these times when the 3D hype is still current, that’s why the launch of BMW X3 uses augmented reality.

Back in December 2010, NMI first used augmented reality also on the same magazine. Vernon Sarne who is the magazine’s editor-in-chief says that their readers were surprised with this, and they gained more from it.
