Wonwei, a technology startup in Iceland, is taking an innovative approach to QR codes. The tech company has partnered with Iceland’s largest telecommunications company, Sinminn. Together, the two have created a fully interactive QR code experience that was unveiled at the recent Iceland Airwaves music festival. The event attracted thousands of music enthusiasts and artists from around the world and Wonwei introduced them to a new way to use QR codes that has never been seen before.

The company constructed an interactive music installation at the event. With the help of Microsoft Kinect – a motion capture device that is gaining favor within the technology community, Wonwei was able to capture the movements of attendees and integrate them with music and QR codes. The codes were then displayed on a large screen, where attendees could watch the image dance to the tune they had been made with. Once the codes stopped dancing, they could be scanned to reveal exclusive information regarding the festival.

qr codesWonwei has proven that QR codes can be much more than a static means of advertising. With technology becoming more advanced, the need to produce interactive experiences for consumers is becoming more profound. Wonwei’s work with the codes may inspire others to take a more innovative approach on how they use QR codes in the future, especially as consumers become more enthralled by interactivity.
