Will the second version of the Apple Store app change the mobile payment world?

Apple Mobile Payments
The second version of the Apple Store app has now been officially launched, allowing consumers to use their Apple mobile devices to shop for products from the company or from other companies that have received its approval.

This new Apple Store App is a significant upgrade from the original, which now looks rather antiquated in comparison. Though it would allow individuals to enroll in training and classes, manage their Genius Bar appointments, and obtain information about various Apple products, this new app has changed things dramatically.

Now, users will also benefit from two brand new key features:

• EasyPay – which allows users to make purchases from an Apple Store simply by capturing an image of its barcode with the device camera, and;

• Personal Pickup – which lets users make an order for items that are in stock, so that within an hour, they will already be ready to be picked up at the nearest Apple Store.

This may not be an overall mobile payment solution, and for now it is only available in the United States, but it is the first real step that the company has taken into m-commerce. Considering how many iPhone users actually visit Apple Stores, the business has now put itself into a prime position to impact the development of this technology and its adoption.

What analysts and industry experts are now wondering is whether Apple is going to be able to set the bar for systems offering mobile payments? Or whether they will maintain an exclusively Apple mobile payment system that is simply run through the store’s app.
