If you would have asked someone 10 years ago if mobile marketing was effective they would have answered yes. However, they would have been referring to outdoor advertising; billboards and truck side ads. Now if you talk about mobile advertising, people automatically refer to their cell phones or PDA’s. From being virtually an unheard of notion 10 years ago, mobile advertising has become an industry worth over 16 billion dollars.

Over 80 percent of the nation’s population carries a cell phone. Statistics from 2006 showed that e-mail and telephone marketing had the highest response rates for direct media marketers, at 2.60 percent. Mobile marketing companies now show that 95 percent of media messages (and ads) are looked at within 15 minutes of receiving them.

Almost half of the Generation Y crowd says that mobile phones are the number one consumer electronic. Advertising mobile has gained over 50 percent of customer’s attention over print advertising and television. These numbers are not a fluke; predictions show these numbers continually rising in the coming years.

When ads are sent directly to consumers via their mobile device, they feel a connection to the business. The consistent rise in numbers is making mobile marketing the most used of marketing solutions. Additionally, it doesn’t just include text messaging or MMS. Mobile apps and mobile WAP sites are also considered effective mobile messaging types.

Mobile marketing can benefit any business, of any size; it’s everywhere. Globally, cell phone subscriptions are topping over 5 billion users, and in another year, text messaging is estimated to hit over 10 trillion messages being sent and received.
