Inside the span of twenty four hours, Google held two large events; the first in New York with its subsidiary, Motorola, and the second in Hong Kong with its partner, Samsung.
Though there had been some speculation here and there on the internet that there would be a new generation of the Xoom tablet announced, or that there would be a preview available for the next Android-based Galaxy Tab running on the new version of the operating system, dubbed Ice Cream Sandwich, neither of those events placed any focus on tablets.
Instead, the events put the spotlight on smartphones and the ways in which those devices from Motorola and Samsung can be best developed with Android.
The Ice Cream Sandwich operating system is being called the unified mobile OS from Google, as it functions equally on either smartphones or tablet devices. As of yet, though, all this means is that – according to Hugo Berra From Google – “Ice Cream Sandwich will bring everything you love about Honeycomb on your tablet to your phone.”
The entire effort so far appears to be concentrating on making the smartphone mobile experience much more capable, interactive, and bigger overall. In fact, it also refers to making the device itself a larger one. There is a 4.65 inch, 1280 by 720 pixel screen on the Galaxy Nexus. Though this is not unheard of, it is still quite large for a smartphone and is notably bigger than the screen on the Nexus One phone, which is 3.7 inches.
