A new application designed by two doctors from South Africa could help with patient assessments. Two doctors have created an mhealth app that has been designed to help overburdened and over-stressed nurses and EMS healthcare workers to be able to better assess the needs of patients in South Africa emergency centers. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has now given clearance to this mobile application for traumatic brain injury identification. The FDA has now given clearance to an mhealth app called the Defense Automated Neurobehavioral Assessment, which is a smartphone based application that is meant to offer medical providers with assistance in identifying situations in which traumatic brain injury may be present. Google Glass assists in surgeons with better patient monitoring

A recent study has shown that this augmented reality technology allows doctors to more easily watch vital signs. In a pilot study conducted by Stanford University, surgical residents who wore Google Glass augmented reality devices in order to be able to monitor the vital signs of their patients during simulated surgeries were capable of identifying complications more quickly and acting to address them more rapidly than the surgeons who did not have this wearable technology. The first two of a number of applications for providing vets with better care will soon be launching. The Veterans Affairs Department (VA) has now announced their intentions to launch the first two of what will one day be several mhealth apps for smartphones and tablets that are designed to offer veterans faster and easier access to healthcare data.
