According to the results of a study just released by PriceGrabber, over the upcoming holiday season, 13 percent of shoppers will be using their smartphones and tablets for making their holiday purchases.

The study examined the various methods that will be used by consumers for their holiday purchases, including in-store, online, and mobile. Regardless of the increase, among the respondents of the survey, only 4 percent stated that they would actually be making the purchases over mobile. This shows how important mobile devices are becoming for the in-store shopping process.

According to the general manager of Los Angeles-based PriceGrabber, Graham Jones, “This steady increase in the popularity of mobile shopping is indicative of how more consumers are recognizing the conveniences mobile shopping can offer”.

He went on to explain that as a growing number of people use their smartphones, it will not surprise him to see that mobile shopping will become an important part of saving money and time.

The study involved the participation of 2,322 American consumers from September 19 through October 17, 2011.

Last year, a similar survey showed that only 9 percent of consumers intended to use their smartphones or tablets in order to help them to make their holiday shopping purchases, demonstrating an increase of 4 percent in 2011.

It should also be noted that, in 2010, 3 percent of the respondents said that they intended to make actual product purchases using their mobile devices. As this figure has only risen to 4 percent this year, it shows that consumers are not yet fully ready to trust mobile commerce.
