Smartphone clutter solutions

So Many Aps So Little Time

QR codes have relied entirely on barcode scanning applications for smart phones to be successful.  While most applications are free to download, some smart phone users are wary to add more programs to their already cluttered smart phones. ScanBuy is attempting to remove applications from the equation entirely by giving millions of people access to barcode scanning technology without having to download anything to their phones.

ScanBuy, a leader in 2d barcode solutions, has launched their new service called ScanLife. The service allows users to take a picture of any QR code they find and then send it to the ScanLife servers, where the information is decoded and sent back to the user. The only requirement is that the smartphone be equipped with a camera.

ScanLife does have a downloadable application which is, in essence, barcode scanning software.

Using this service, those without scanning applications can take part in the increasing amount of QR campaigns. There is concern, however, that the service is too slow – taking the quick out of quick response.

Everything is handled through the ScanLife servers, meaning that all the data linked to the QR codes are decoded elsewhere, and then it is reassembled and sent back to the smart phone. Typically, data transfers are processed within second. The bigger the content, the longer it will take to process, making the user wait for videos or other media. The servers are also susceptible to being overwhelmed should many users send data at once.

ScanBuy is dedicated to providing a quality service and will continue to focus on making QR more accessible to all.
