Google may be working on a component for Project Glass

Google’s Project Glass has been subject to rampant criticism recently after the company revealed that the product may not actually be able to embody the augmented reality features that it had aggressively promoted. Though Project Glass may not have anything to do with augmented reality, Google has not abandoned the technology. According to a new patent issued by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, the technology company is developing a new system it is tentatively calling the Smart Glove.

Smart Glove aims to provide users with a variety of services

The Smart Glove is detailed in a patent called “Seeing with your Hand.” The patent provides some information concerning the function of the Smart Glove, noting that it is filled with high-tech electronics. Cameras are embedded in the fingertips of the glove, with the rest of the glove housing a compass, gyroscopes, accelerometers, motion detectors, and wireless communication chips. The glove will boast of a powerful CPU and a large amount of RAM, which will help it handle the supposed augmented reality operations that it will be used for.

Smart Glove may incorporate features that are missing from Project Glass

The Smart Glove is designed to provide a user with a wide variety of high-tech services. The glove’s cameras can be used to provide a user with a highly magnified view of the world around them. The motion detectors, gyroscopes, and accelerometers will serve as a foundation for a variety of applications that are often found on smart phones, such as navigation apps. Wireless communication technology could facilitate data transfer between Smart Glove users, or enable users to partake in mobile commerce.

Google has yet to open up about its Smart Glove

Google’s Smart Glove may be a future component of Project Glass, but it is still too early in the project’s life to tell for certain. Currently, Smart Glove exists only as a patent and Google has not yet filed an application for the system. It may be several years before the system materializes and Google has not yet released specific information concerning the Smart Glove.
