Voters who have yet to register can now do so even more conveniently through QR codes that are displayed on Virgin America flights.
The screens on the back of the seats will display the barcodes that allow for registration.
This is a part of the popular Rock the Vote campaign, which is aiming to encourage 1.5 million new voters to register. The campaign is centered around QR codes that can be found in many different places. One of the most popular locations had been on T-shirts, but now it’s headed up into the sky on airline flights.
Virgin America has partnered with Rock the Vote to have the QR codes displayed in-flight.
The voter registration QR codes will be displayed on the new Virgin America route that provides nonstop flights from San Francisco to Washington D.C. They allow passengers to use the in-flight entertainment system in the planes in order to register to vote. They simply need to scan the barcodes using their smartphones after activating the in-flight internet service. Scanning brings the smartphone user directly to the mobile voter registration page.
Smartphone users are also given the opportunity to make a donation to the Rock the Vote campaign through the use of a credit card.
Many people are always on the go and feel that they haven’t got a moment in which to register to vote. Even when they do have a free moment, they want to use it for other activities in their personal lives. By offering the opportunity to register while on an airplane, people have the chance to make good use of their forced down-time.
Part of the hope of this campaign is that individuals who have become highly dependent on their smartphones will find the process of registering to be much more natural and easy for them as it can be accomplished through that favorite device. By making the QR codes available on airplanes, it simplifies the process even further, as it makes certain that it has captured the attention of people when they have little better to do, and it reminds them of the importance and convenience of doing their civic duty.
