Orange introduces Quick Tap service into Galaxy S III

Orange, one of the largest telecommunications networks in the UK, has announced that customers with Samsung’s Galaxy S III smart phone will now be able to make contactless payments. Orange customers will be able to make use of the NFC capabilities of the mobile device using the company’s Quick Tap service, which was launched through a partnership with Barclaycard last year. Quick Tap is the first commercial mobile payment platform released in the United Kingdom and has, thus far, been well received by consumers interested in mobile commerce.

Smart phone can be used to make purchases at over 100,000 retail locations

Galaxy S III owners can download the mobile application associated with the Orange Quick Tap service, which will give them access to making mobile purchases at over 100,000 retail locations throughout the UK. A Quick Tap account is needed to use the service, which can be funded through either a MasterCard or Visa card. Users will have to approve their transactions by inputting a PIN that grants them access to their account.

Orange touts capabilities of NFC-enabled mobile device

The Galaxy S III was the “Official phone of the 2012 Olympic Games.” UK telecommunications and financial companies were keen to promote mobile commerce during the prestigious sporting event, touting the possibilities of NFC-enabled mobile devices. Orange was able to show how simplistic its approach to m-commerce was and provided consumers, both foreign and domestic, with an easy to use mobile payment platform during the event. Orange will not be the only company in the UK’s m-commerce arena, however. Last week, Everything Everywhere and MasterCard entered into a partnership that will produce a new mobile payment platform to the market.

Security concerns continue to plague mobile commerce

Concerns regarding the security of mobile commerce are still something that keeps many consumers away from Orange’s services and those offered by other companies. Orange, as well as others invested in m-commerce, is quick to note the security features that are included in their services and are keen to bolster these features with new security methods designed to protect the financial information stored on a smart phone.
