Google unveils Nexus 7 tablet
Google recently unveiled its new mini-tablet devices called the Nexus 7. With the announcement of the new product, Google is taking its first official steps into the arena of tablet computing. For years, the tablet market has been dominated by Apple and its famous iPad device. The iPad has been able to hold the majority share of the market due to its innovative features, many of which have proven popular amongst consumers. Without competition, Apple may have grown lazy in its efforts to remain at the top of the tablet market, a possibility that Google may be looking to take advantage of.
Tablet boasts of powerful technology that could set it apart from the iPad
The Nexus 7 boasts of several features that are designed to provide consumers with an experience they have come to expect from the famed technology company’s products. Equipped with a quad-core processor and a 12-core video chip, the device is designed with entertainment and media in mind. The tablet will be able to handle some of the most graphically intensive games currently available on the market. The Nexus 7 will also be equipped with NFC technology, which could enable it to perform as a mobile payment device.
Nexus 7 to be equipped with NFC technology
The NFC chip in the Nexus 7 will be used to enable data transfer between it and other NFC-enabled devices. Consumers will be able to use the NFC capabilities of the Nexus 7 to gain access to a large array of information, such as directions to a particular location or where they can find local deals on particular items in their area. The Nexus 7 is also expected to facilitate mobile payments through the Google Wallet application. Because of the tablet’s small size, Google does not expect it to be a cumbersome payment device.
Nexus 7 may be able to compete with Apple’s iPad
Google is expected to bring some much needed competition to the tablet market with its Nexus 7. Whether the company will be able to compete with Apple in this field has yet to be seen. Apple certainly has the lead in the market due to the position it has enjoyed for the past few years.
