Nebraska has taken a bold step in engaging travelers with their 2011 Nebraska Travel Guide. The 176 page, annually printed guide will feature interactive content through use of QR codes. Scanning the codes with any smart phone will take readers to informational videos, high-flying landscape tours and notices for upcoming events in the state. The mobile website, set up 3 months ago in preparation for this year’s guide, will immediately let visitors peruse through information on attractions and recreational activities.

“We’re empowering travelers to be flexible with their planning,” says director of Nebraska’s Division of Travel and Tourism, Christian Hornbaker. “And the ability to be flexible can be the difference between merely a good vacation and an absolutely unforgettable trip.”

Not only can travelers find the information that they want, they can even book tours, rooms or make reservations from their mobile device.

The guide has struggled with listing accurate information on events in towns across the state in the past years, whether by offering incomplete listings or dates being changed after publication. The new, streamlined website can offer updated information quickly, so much so that this year’s guide only highlights 16 festivals.

The guide has a number of other features along with a newly updated section on hunting and fishing for the outdoors man. They’re also showing a lodging section listing a number of bed and breakfasts, guest ranches and a bevy of other facilities. Military and pioneer history can be found within the guide as well.

The guide is free and can be ordered online or downloaded in PDF format.
