In the case of Apple, the strict control that the company holds over what can be downloaded its store has kept the vast majority of malicious apps from making it into the devices of consumers. Even the Google Play store, which isn’t as rigid, has experienced very few malware mobile security threats despite the freedom that it has given developers.
However, while mobile security from malware is an issue, there are more important issues building.
Android users who download only from Google Play have quite the low risk of encountering malware mobile security issues at the moment. However, it is scammers and aggressive ad networks where the focus for protection should be placed. These are the threats that seek to obtain access to a smartphone user’s personal data. Moreover, smartphone theft, itself, is also a growing issue.
The mobile security protection built into Android devices has been designed to help to keep users safe from all of those types of threat, and suites are making it possible to block off possible malware attacks even in the rare instance that one does occur. However, all too many smartphones are not password protected – at the choice of the user – and many device users don’t know when not to click on an ad that they see.
The latest studies from the independent AV-Test lab has shown that among Android security suites, the average detection rate for mobile security threats in the form of malware is about 96 percent. A number of the apps available were actually able to detect 100 percent of the attacks that had been used in the study. It is up to the user to know to apply these measures and to protect themselves against the scams and unethical ad strategies that are becoming increasingly common.
