M-commerce sales in April 2013 rose by 74 percent

The latest report from Branding Brand, an m-commerce technology provider, is that among 18 of the company’s customers, they saw an increase in sales of 74 percent when compared to the year before.

The results in April 2013 were considerably better than what was seen in April 2012.

The company also reported that m-commerce made up 10.8 percent of the total online sales of these companies, bringing in $76 million in April 2012, but that this shot upward in April 2013. This year, it made up 15.9 percent of the total online sales, this year, for a total of $89,9 million that month.

Both smartphones and tablets saw massive m-commerce sales growth last month compared to 2012.

There was growth in sales via both smartphones and tablets. Sales by way of tablets saw an increase of 70.8 percent over April 2012, rising from 6.5 percent to reach $11.1 million in sales in April 2013. On the other hand, m-commerce sales over smartphones rose by 88.2 percent from having been $1.7 million in April 2012, and rising to $3.2 million in April of this year.

According to the co-founder and chief information officer of Branding Brand, Joey Rahimi, “Increases in devices, functionality and familiarity all contribute to the growth of mobile commerce.” He added that “More and more people have smartphones, and thanks to competition, smartphones are getting better. In addition to improvements in device usability and functionality, we’re also seeing improvements in consumer comfort levels.”

Rahimi also pointed out that the idea of adopting m-commerce is one that takes time, but it is now reaching the point that it is rapidly coming closer to becoming a mainstream form of shopping.

Branding Brand also reported that m-commerce site visits also increased substantially in April 2013 over April 2012. In fact, among the 18 retailers whose data was taken into account for this report, there was an 89.7 percent jump during that year, rising from 6.8 million visits to 12.9 million. This year, the visits from mobile devices made up 30.9 percent of all of the April visits.
