Indiana adopts QR codes to promote services and government transparency throughout the state
October 11th, 2011 | Add a Comment

The Indiana state government has taken its first steps into the world of mobility in the hopes of providing new services to state residents. The advent of smart phones and their continued rise to fame amongst consumers has not gone unnoticed by state officials. With so many people now having constant access to mobile technology, the state is presented with a unique opportunity to stay engaged with its populace. For this reason, Indiana has adopted QR codes as one of their favored information distribution methods.
The Senate Republican Caucus has begun using QR codes on a number of printed materials. The codes are being included with letters sent to constituents to inform them of pending legislations and current projects being undertaken by their representatives. The organization claims that the codes are being used to create more transparency in the state government, allowing residents to access information on subjects they may not have ever known about before.
Other state agencies are using the codes to promote local parks, new laws and even political campaigns. While the success of the codes has been modest, thus far, state officials remain hopeful that more people will make use of the codes once they become familiar with the digital black and white patterns.
With society becoming increasingly mobile, there can be no doubt that QR codes will indeed become well known in the future.
