Google sends the mobile ad marketplace beyond the forecasts of the industry

The mobile advertising marketplace in the United States is currently in a state of explosion, and is growing much more rapidly than even the highest projections that had been made by the industry’s analysts.

Google mobile search is currently receiving a great deal of the credit for the advertising business that reached all new heights last year and this year is already lining up to leave 2011’s figures in the dust.

The recent surge in the ownership of smartphones and the omnipresence of the mobile ad networks – such as the iAd from Apple, AdMob from Google, as well as Millennial Media – have caused industry experts such as eMarketer to predict that this year’s growth in mobile commerce advertising will be well beyond what has ever been seen before.

The most recent estimates are showing that American mobile advertising spending neared the $1.45 billion mark in 2011, which represents rise by 89 percent over the same time in 2010. In 2012, however, the current projections are indicating that the mobile ad spending in the U.S. alone will hit $2.61 billion.

According to a principal analyst at eMarketer, Noah Elkin, there are a large number of researchers that are currently examining nearly the identical empirical data regarding advertising over mobile channels, but their conclusions are notably unlike one another. He explained that if the best overall picture is to be formed about the ad market over mobile, “we think it’s essential to evaluate multiple information sources-rather than a single dataset-especially as the market remains immature.”
