Google chairman says there will be no negative impact on Android from Motorola

Eric Schmidt

Eric Schmidt
Chairman of Google Inc., Eric Schmidt, has released more information about the acquisition of Motorola Mobility Holdings Inc. by the internet giant for $12.5 billion, and has specifically explained that this will not “screw up” the success of Android.

Schmidt has held to the claims that have already been made by Google, which have said that acquiring Motorola Mobility Holdings Inc., may play an important role in promoting competition among the manufacturers of Android based phones. They believe this is an important move in an economy that still requires stimulation – at least on the short term – and that they will not play favorites toward devices manufactured by Motorola.

Schmidt spoke in a television interview, saying that their top priority is the Android ecosystem, and that Google doesn’t intend to do anything with any company – including Motorola – that would “screw up the dynamics of that industry.” He explained that powerful competition among all of the manufacturers of Android-based devices is needed, and that Google will not be playing favorites in any “way people are concerned about.”

He also added that the intellectual property owned by Google will be boosted with the 17,000 patents that have been gained through the Motorola acquisition, and that this is an important benefit, as it will eventually cease all of the legal battles that are currently rampant in the $207 billion mobile phone marketplace

Chairman Schmidt made these statements in response to concerns that had been raised by analysts about competition in the market following the Motorola acquisition.
